As described by the manufacturer, the GPD505 is a sine-coded AC motor driver. It allows for adjustable voltage and frequency control of 3-phase AC motors using pulse width modulation on a constant input frequency. The GPD505 does not induce any voltage line distortion back to the utility line and can maintain a power factor of at least 0.98 over its intended range of operation. The GPD505 is a versatile and efficient motor driver which offers an array of user parameters and settings to enhance performance and functionality. Most commonly used on pumps and fans, the GPD505 ranges in size from 0.4kW up to 75kW.

Most importantly, every repair is fully tested in our custom-built simulators under load with a motor to replicate real-life working environment.

Repair Process for General-Purpose Inverter Drives

Visual Overview

When conducting a visual check, the technician inspects the drive for any mechanical damage to the drive itself and any printed circuit boards (PCB). The technician then proceeds to verify connections are tight and correct inside the drive and there are no loose screws, wires or debris. Additionally, the unit is checked for any burn marks on the components, PCBs or chassis. During the visual inspection, excessive dirt on cooling components is noted as well as the functionality of the heat sink.

Input Module Testing

The input modules on these units can be tested by use of a digital multimeter with diode checking capabilities. Upon removing the cover, all of these terminals can be located along the terminal strip found within the unit.

Common Alarms for the Magnetek GPD505 Inverter Units
